It was a gorgeous day at the historic Knauss Homestead on Saturday, August 5th, where the Knauss Homestead Preservation Society in partnership with the Borough of Emmaus held their annual Peach Festival. More than 600 people turned up throughout the day to enjoy the many vendors, a variety of food, historic home tours, and live music from The Little Brass Band and DJ Dutch.
Horse drawn carriage rides were in demand as attendees were whisked away through the Emmaus Community Gardens and ballfields by Steiner Artisan Farms to experience the peace and beauty of rural life in the Lehigh Valley.
On one of the rides, local children’s author Ashley Reigle read her new book Draw Away the Drizzle to children and adults alike who were lucky enough to score a seat. Her book is available for purchase here.
Nearby at the barn, the Emmaus Arts Commission lead lots of fun, artistic activities for everyone courtesy of Lindsey Kleinberg who helped participants make beautiful peach art and enjoy time creating.
Robert Maletsky, Knauss descendant and local hex sign painter/artisan captivated all who passed his space as he created amazing works of intricate design while offering his work for sale. Several of his pieces will hang on the Knauss Homestead barn in the coming months. You can view more of his work here.
As the afternoon progressed, attendees were treated to a captivating seminar with the Knauss Homestead’s own resident historian John Schmoyer, who told tales of the early days of the Homestead and its first patriarch Sebastian Knauss. His talk was recorded and will be made available on the Knauss Homestead Preservation Society website in the coming days thanks to Tyler Wursta Video.
The next event at the Knauss Homestead will be the Second Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday September 16th, being held in conjunction with the Heritage Festival. Attendees will be able to enjoy 2 festivals at both the Knauss Homestead and in the Emmaus Triangle!
